Volleyball Opens Conference Play Against NKU

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –The Lipscomb volleyball team opens conference play against Northern Kentucky in Highland Heights, Ky., in Regents Hall on Tuesday.

The Lady Bisons are 4-1 in their last five Atlantic Sun Conference openers, while NKU will be playing its first A-Sun opener.

LU is looking for its first road win of the season as the team enters this match 0-3, while the Norse will be playing their first home match of the season.

The Lady Bisons are looking forward to getting into conference play.

“We’re 3-8, which is something that I’m not proud of or happy with, but at the same time of those eight losses, six of them are to teams in the top 40,” Lipscomb head coach Brandon Rosenthal said.  “It’s a brand new season, not only for us, but for everyone.”

NKU is on a four-match winning streak, including winning the Bulldog Invitational with a 3-0 record.  The Norse are led by Shelby Buschur with 145 kills, Jenna Schreiver with 537 assists and Kylee Tarantino with 204 digs.

“We expect a packed house,” Rosenthal said.  “Northern Kentucky is doing some great stuff.  They’ve got six seniors on the team and all six are major, major contributors.  They’re led by their setter, Schreiver, who does a fantastic job running their offense and pushing the tempo.”

LU Junior Caitlin Dotson continues to track down her 1,000th career assist.  The Louisville, Ky., native needs 59 more assists to reach the milestone.

The Lady Bisons face Jacksonville on Friday night at 6:30 and North Florida on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Allen Arena.  All home volleyball matches are on A-Sun TV and are free to attend.
