MACON, Ga. – For the second week in a row, Lipscomb volleyball senior Kaycee Green has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Green had at least 15 kills in both matches for a total of 37 kills, including a season-high 22 kills against a 3-1 win over Mercer Saturday night. Green added 15 kills against a 3-0 win over Kennesaw State Friday night.
“For Kaycee to win a second straight award is awesome,” head coach Brandon Rosenthal said. “In both matches, Kaycee came up huge and she did some great things at the end of the Mercer match.”
The Cookeville, Tenn., native had an impressive 5.29 kills per set and a hitting percentage of .310 on the week, including a hitting percentage of .429 against Kennesaw State.
Green also totaled six total blocks, two solo and four assists, added two digs and had 41.0 points.
“She’s starting to feel really comfortable in the matches,” Rosenthal said. “She’s understanding the matchups and understanding what the defenses are trying to do to her. But more importantly, Kaycee’s understanding her game and the fact that she doesn’t have to score on every play.”
This is Green’s second career A-Sun Player of the Week honor as she won the award last week with a 50-kill performance in three matches. LU is the only A-Sun team to have multiple volleyball Players of the Week this season.
The Lady Bisons (8-8, 5-0 A-Sun) continue on the road against USC Upstate (5-10, 1-3 A-Sun) Friday at 6 p.m. and ETSU (11-7, 2-2 A-Sun) Saturday at 2 p.m.
“This was a good weekend for us and we’ve got another tough one coming up,” Rosenthal said. “It’s one of those things that we are able to enjoy it for about a day and then we are back at work. I know the team will be ready to go this weekend.”
