ESPN 3 to air five volleyball games this fall

Thursday, August 15, 2013

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Continuing to be a leader in online content delivery, Lipscomb Athletics will air five Friday night volleyball contests on ESPN 3 direct from the on-campus production suite in Allen Arena this fall.

The broadcast schedule gets underway on Sept. 6 as the Lady Bisons host Samford in the Lipscomb Invitational.  Atlantic Sun Conference coverage then begins on Oct. 4 against USC Upstate before an Oct. 11 league tilt against Mercer.

“This is an awesome opportunity to showcase the product we have and what this program is all about,” said Lipscomb head coach Brandon Rosenthal. “Being on the national level is exactly what we are trying to do with this program.

“The ESPN 3 product is fantastic. I know our players parents and fans will be excited.  To be able to do this on a regular basis is a credit to the University and our program and what we’ve started to establish at the national level.”

The North Florida contest rounds out the online coverage in October on the 25th before the Stetson match on Nov. 15 concludes regular season coverage.

“We look forward to expanding our relationship with the Atlantic Sun Conference, which recognizes the value of collaborating with a multi-screen sports network like ESPN3,” said Jason Bernstein, senior director, programming and acquisitions, ESPN. “The ability to work together to deliver exclusive collegiate live events across digital platforms to a national audience serves fans with events that might otherwise not have been shown on television.”

Two additional contests are awaiting final approval from ESPN and could be added to the schedule in the near future.

“The exposure is unbelievable and will no doubt help recruiting and the idea of what Lipscomb University is," said Rosenthal. "Every university is challenged with being able to present today’s current image over what it was 10 to 15 years ago.  It’s fun to be a part of it and thankfully we have the opportunity to be a leader nationally.”
