"It was fun to win," said Lipscomb Coach Brandon Rosenthal. "This tournament was a great experience for us."
Later in the day the Lady Bisons lost 30-12 and 30-25 to Ole Miss before rallying to win 30-23 in game three. In game four Ole Miss won 32-30.
"I can't say enough about how we played against Ole Miss," Rosenthal said. "We played with a lot of poise and a lot of character. We had a chance to win the fourth game. We played exceptionally well."
Opposite Lindsey Rutherford earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team for her performances Friday and Saturday. Rutherford played in 15 games as the Lady Bisons went 1-3 in the tournament. She recorded a season-high 18 kills in a five-game match with Lamar. She also recorded a season-high .429 hitting percentage against Lamar. In a four-game match with Ole Miss, Rutherford had 16 kills.
The Lady Bisons match victory over Lamar was their first victory of the season and their second five-game match of the season.
The Lady Bisons are 1-7 this season.
"We learned a lot about ourselves in the tournament," Rosenthal said. "We talked a lot about where we have come from as a program. We played against the Big12, the ACC and the SEC. And we really competed with everybody except Texas in the tournament."
