MACON, Ga. - Lipscomb and Mercer will face off Saturday afternoon inside Lipscomb's Allen Arena in the Atlantic Sun Match of the Week. This will mark the second meeting this season between the two schools; the Lady Bisons dropped Mercer in four sets back on Oct. 10. Saturday’s match can be viewed on ASun.TV.
With the season winding down, both teams are in a tight race for seeding in the upcoming conference tournament. As the Bears prepare to host the conference championship for the second consecutive season, and the Bisons aim to defend their 2007 conference crown. Lipscomb enters the weekend with inside track to the top-seed with a game lead over Belmont and a two-game lead over Mercer.
Mercer volleyball boasts multiple players who currently rank among the conference leaders in various statistics. Karen Dorris ranks sixth in kills per set (3.36), and senior libero Claire Tucker is second among Atlantic Sun players in digs per set (5.33). Freshman outside hitter Amiee Frutchey is sixth in digs per set (3.54). Sophomore middle hitter Krista Hurley checks in at eigth overall in hitting percentage (.298), while sophomore middle blocker Libby Hansch is hitting .281, ranking tenth among conference players.
A pair of sophomores lead the Lady Bisons in middle blocker Alex Kelly, who as of Nov. 12 has knocked down 446 kills for a conference-best average of 4.05 kills per set, and sophomore setter Stefine Pease, who was honored as a pre-season all-conference selection. As of Nov. 13, Pease has dished out 1,113 assists on the season for a conference-best 10.12 assists per set.
