Thursday, July 22, 2010Lipscomb University’s Lady Bisons volleyball team has been honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for its academics.
The Lady Bisons are one of 94 NCAA Division I teams receiving the AVCA Team Academic Award for 2009-2010.
"I am really proud of this team and this program," Lady Bisons coach Brandon Rosenthal said. "This recent award is a great accomplishment and another example of why this program is special. The girls work extremely hard in the classroom and I am proud to be associated with them.
"The leadership amongst the players when it comes to academics is truly remarkable. What a year for this program. As I tell everyone that wants to be a part of this program, I expect you to give this program your very best effort day in and day out, on and off the court. This recent award and the 2009 A-Sun Championship are examples of what hard work can achieve."
The award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that have displayed excellence in the classroom. To qualify teams had to maintain a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 GPA on a 5.0 scale.
The Lady Bisons are one of 15 new teams on the NCAA Division level to receive the award.
Other Atlantic Sun Conference teams honored were Belmont, ETSU, Jacksonville and USC Upstate.
