NASHVILLE, Tenn.-The Lipscomb volleyball team looks to kick start their season this weekend in the Lipscomb Invitational.

The Lady Bisons look for their first win of the season after starting 0-3 after a tough schedule in the Kentucky Classic tournament last weekend.  Kentucky was ranked No. 13 in the country, while Long Beach State and North Carolina were the first two teams outside of the top 25 and all three teams made it to the NCAA tournament last season.

Even though LU could not find a win in Lexington, Ky., they almost beat the host team of Kentucky.  They had a 2-1 lead, but then the Wildcats came back and won the match 3-2.

Sophomore Lauren Ford was named to the Kentucky Classic All-Tournament team after averaging nearly a double-double throughout the tournament.  In three matches, Ford notched 32 kills and added 28 digs.

“One of my favorite parts of this past weekend was the idea that she (Ford) wasn’t afraid,” Rosenthal said.  “Quite honestly, none of our players were afraid.  If you look at the Kentucky match, there was nobody holding back, like ‘I’m not sure about this.’”

The Lady Bisons will play a doubleheader on Friday, Aug. 31st with Appalachian State at 12:30 p.m. and then against Missouri at 7:30 p.m.  They will finish up the tournament against Houston on Saturday, Sept. 1st at 2:30 p.m.

LU has never played a match against Appalachian State or Missouri.  But they have played against Houston on the road in the second match last season and lost 3-0.

“You’ve got four teams that are really trying to make their own mark, whether it’s in their own conference or for a new coach or on the national scale,” Rosenthal said.

Admission is $5 for each session for those ages 13 and up during the Lipscomb Invitational.  Admission is free for all Lipscomb students with their student ID and those ages 12 and under.

The Lady Bisons will continue their season on Tuesday, Sept. 4th against in state foe Austin Peay at Allen Arena before heading west for the Arizona Invitational.
