CORAL GABLES, FLA. – The Lipscomb Lady Bisons lost 91-52 to the Miami Hurricanes of the Atlantic Coast Conference in a New Year’s Day matinee Saturday at the Bank United Center.
Miami, who received votes in the latest national polls, overmatched the Lady Bisons in nearly every fashion. They forced 25 Lady Bisons turnovers and outscored Lipscomb in the paint by 36 points. The Hurricanes held a 54-25 advantage on the boards.
Junior guard Anna Bowers led the Lady Bisons with 15 points while sophomore wing Hannah Phillips added 10 points.
Shenise Johnson, Riquna Williams and Morgan Stroman each had double-doubles for Miami combining for 69 points and 31 rebounds.
Miami opened the game in a full court press that forced eight Lady Bisons turnovers in the first six minutes of the contest allowing them to open a 16-7 lead.
A 9-0 run gave the Hurricanes a 25-12 lead with 8:49 left in the first half. Miami took its largest lead of the first half, 18 points, at the 3:36 mark. Miami led 40-22 at halftime.
Lipscomb controlled the first two minutes of the second period before Miami secured control of the game with a 10-0 run giving them a 54-28 advantage.
Lipscomb scored seven points from 12:33 to 5:41 as Miami expanded its lead to 35 points. Their largest lead was 39 points which came with 3:15 remaining.
Lipscomb shot 31.4 percent from the floor and 37.5 percent from the 3-point line.
The Lady Bisons were 11-of-21 from the free throw line while Miami was 29-of-37 (78.4 percent) from the charity line. Overall Miami shot 46.9 percent from the field.
It was Lipscomb’s first game against an ACC opponent since dropping a 91-45 contest at North Carolina on Dec. 28, 2004.
The Lady Bisons travel to DeLand, Fla., to face Stetson (5-6, 1-1 A-Sun) Monday at 4 p.m. Benjamin Seamon will be on the call for the Lipscomb Sports Network.
