NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s basketball team continues home action on Saturday afternoon welcoming Atlantic Sun force FGCU to Allen Arena at 4 p.m.
After dropping a 74-63 decision to Stetson, who is undefeated in A-Sun play, the Lady Bison find themselves welcoming another team who is perfect in league play to Nashville. FGCU comes into Saturday’s contest 15-2 overall and 7-0 in conference action.
Along with being “Scout Night” for area Boy and Girl Scouts, the Bison are set to collect new and used books donations for the Book Em non-profit organization that distributes books to lower-income students in the Nashville area.
The Lady Bison continue to be led by junior wing Hannah Phillips, who paces the team scoring 12.6 points per game and hauling in 5.4 rebounds per contest. The veteran has scored in double figures the past 10 contests. Senior guard Anna Bowers continues to stay right on Phillips’ heels scoring 11.9 points a game. Bowers heads into Saturday afternoon’s tilt needing only 28 points to become the fourth Lady Bison in school history to reach the 1,000 point mark.
The opponent: Receiving votes in this week’s ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, FGCU has put together an impressive resume through this point in the season. The Eagles pair of losses have come at Seton Hall and against N.C. State in the opening round of the Hawai’i Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Honolulu.
The Eagles pace the A-Sun in scoring averaging nearly 76 points a night while allowing a mere 50.9 points defensively, a figure that is also tops in the conference. Sophomore guard Sarah Hansen leads FGCU averaging 13.5 points per game and 5.9 rebounds each night.
FGCU is the only team in the league that shoots the three better than the Lady Bison hitting their treys at a blistering .391 rate compared to Lipscomb’s .346 from downtown.
Up next: The Lady Bison head across the state to take on ETSU next Saturday with a Noon tipoff.
