NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Life on the road is not going to get any easier for the Lipscomb women’s basketball team. Wrapping up a three-game road trip, the Lady Bisons travel to Florida Gulf Coast for Atlantic Sun Conference action and will be the second straight game to be playing the A-Sun co-leaders. Tipoff from Alico Arena in Ft. Myers is at 6:05 p.m.
Lipscomb, coming off a 92-51 loss at the hands of Stetson, who shot 55.4 percent from the field while the Lady Bisons were unable to establish an offensive rhythm. Freshman Kelli Smith led the Purple and Gold with 11 points, including three made 3-point baskets. LU made 12 treys, after entering the weekend ranked 49th in the NCAA with 6.9 made treys per game.
Senior Hannah Phillips continues to pace Lipscomb with 11.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. In league play, freshman Alex Banks leads the team with 11.0 points a night overall while junior Jess Reece snags 7.8 rebounds per game. Freshman Kelli Smith dishes 3.5 assists in conference play, a figure that ranks her sixth in the A-Sun but the top overall freshman.
Florida Gulf Coast, who was picked to finish second in the A-Sun coaches preseason poll, is 14-5 overall and 7-0 in the Atlantic Sun after defeating Northern Kentucky 79-50 on Saturday. Sarah Hanson leads the league with 17.5 points per game and ranks fifth with 8.1 rebounds per game.
The Eagles also present a challenge with Brittany Kennedy, who was chosen as the Preseason Defender of the Year. Her 3.1 steals per game ranks her 28th in the NCAA. On the offensive end, Kennedy scores 10.7 points per game and her 5.8 assists per game rank her 25th in Division I.
