MACON, Ga. – The Atlantic Sun Conference has announced Lipscomb women’s basketball players – senior guard Hannah Phillips and freshman forward Alex Banks – as part of its post-season awards, as announced on Tuesday.
Phillips, a Brentwood native, was named to the All-Academic Team. The psychology major owns a 3.79 GPA over her four years at Lipscomb. Phillips led the Lady Bisons in scoring, rebounds and minutes played this season. Her 13.4 points-per-game average ranked fifth in the A-Sun this season. Phillips also became Lipscomb’s fifth NCAA era women’s basketball player to eclipse 1,000 points in her career.
“It is once again indicative of the type of recruits we want to bring here,” Lipscomb head coach Greg Brown said. “They are student-athletes and Hannah is an excellent example of that. You want players that are consistent both on and off the floor and Hannah is a portrait of that.
“I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with her this year and she has left a legacy for others.”
Banks, a Hendersonville native, was named to the All-Freshman Team. Banks averaged 8.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game but saw her productivity increase during the A-Sun season. Banks’ 10.3 points during conference play ranked fourth among all freshmen and also saw her rebounds increase to 5.4 per game.
“Alex is the first to tell you that individual awards are not as important as team awards,” Brown said. “But it shows you where she came from this year, her limited experience to how she improved throughout the season. I am glad to see her recognized for her work ethic and I look forward to challenging her more in the future.”
