Still looking for the first win of the season, the Lipscomb women’s basketball will return to action Tuesday night to battle Tennessee State at the Gentry Center for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
Tuesday’s game will be the 22nd meeting in the series history with TSU. The Tigers hold an 18-3 advantage with TSU winning at Allen Arena last season 69-60. The Lady Bisons last beat the Tigers Nov. 29, 2008 by a score of 63-55.
The Lady Bisons (0-4) are coming off a loss to No. 7 Kentucky, a game where Lipscomb could not get anything going.
Through the first four games the Bisons are averaging 58 points per game while shooting 34.2 percent from the field. Lipscomb is also averaging 40 rebounds per game.
Ashley Southern leads the Lady Bisons averaging 15.5 points per game. Southern is third nationally in rebounding at 14 per game. She has recorded three double-doubles in the first four games, including career-highs in points (25) and rebounds (18) in the season opening game against Morehead State.
Redshirt freshman Chandler Cooper is starting to find her way after becoming eligible two weeks ago. Cooper scored 10 in her debut at Belmont before recording a team-high 15 in Lexington. Cooper is second on the team with five made three-pointers.
Tennessee State (1-5) is coming off a 77-61 loss to SEC foe, Ole Miss. Since winning on the road at Troy on Nov. 15, the Tigers have lost three-straight.
TSU is led offensively by Chelsea Hudson’s 17.8 scoring mark, the only player averaging double figures. Hudson also leads the team in rebounding averaging 7.7 boards per game.
The Tigers are scoring 63.7 points per game in six contests behind 36.8 percent shooting from the field. This game will air live for free on the OVC Digital Network.
