t was a tale of two halves for the Lady Bisons and the ending wasn't what they wanted.
After battling to a 37-36 halftime lead against East Tennessee State Thursday night at Allen Arena the Lady Bisons were outscored 49-22 in the second half. East Tennessee State walked away with an 85-59 win.
"We played really well in the first half," said Lipscomb coach Frank Bennett. "We had pretty high turnovers, but we were mostly getting good shots and had a tremendous effort on the boards.
"The second half we turned the ball over. That was the biggest thing. We tried to force passes that weren't there. Those led to fast break opportunities. We kind lost our heads."
"We are very thin guard without many options to make changes," said Bennett. "We called four timeouts in the second half. We ran out of timeouts with several minutes left in the game. We couldn't get them calmed down."
The Lady Bisons won the battle of the boards 37-32. Freshman forward Miriam McAlister pulled down a team-leading nine rebounds, the fifth time she has led the team.
Michelle DeVault grabbed nine rebounds for ETSU, narrowly missing a double-double with 16 points.
ETSU's Candace Gibson led all scorers with 28 points. Also in double figures for ETSU was B.J. Banjo with 12.
McAlister scored a season-and-career-high 23 points to lead the Lady Bisons in scoring for the fourth time this season. Also in double figures was junior center Penny Jones with 10 points. She also had eight rebounds.
"Miriam was unbelievable," said Bennett. "She was almost unstoppable around the basket. If she has made her free throws she would have had 30 points. She also was on the boards strong.
`She has played pretty consistently in conference play. She has had some really good games."
The Lady Bisons shot 45.5 percent from the field. ETSU shot 50 percent.
The Lady Bisons are 6-16 overall, 5-10 in the A-Sun. East Tennessee State is 15-7 overall, 11-4 in the conference.
