Final Stats

The Lipscomb Lady Bisons placed four players in double figures on the way to a 73-70 win over Mercer University at the University Center in Macon, Ga., Monday night.

The win marked second time this season that the Lady Bisons have won an Atlantic Sun Conference game on the road. They beat Campbell 86-79 in overtime on the road Jan. 3. The last time the Lady Bisons won two A-Sun games on the road was in the 2004-2005 season.

"Mercer started off hot," said Lipscomb coach Frank Bennett. "We played much better in the second half."

It was a game of season highs for the Lady Bisons. Center Kaleigh Gossman scored 17 points, hitting six-of-eight field attempts and five-of-six free throws, all season highs.

"Kaleigh was unbelievable," Bennett said.

Junior forward Rachel Davis came off of the bench and scored 10 points, tying her season-high for points.

Senior point guard Catie Woods scored 11 points and added a season-high five assists.

Woods connected on a 3-point shot with 13:18 left to play to give the Lady Bisons a 51-48 lead. Once they had the advantage at that point they never gave it up.

Mercer pulled to within one point with approximately one minute left, but a lay up by junior forward Jilian Partin sealed the win for the Lady Bisons in the final 58 seconds.

"Jilian took the ball coast-to-coast and got the lay up to put us up by three," Bennett said.

Partin scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her second consecutive double-double and her fourth of the season.

Junior center Katie Rollins also scored 11 points and hauled in 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.

"Katie came back from being sick and did a good job," Bennett said. "Rachel had a really good first half of scoring.

"It was one of our best offensive games overall. With Kaleigh, Katie and Rachel we were able to get a lot points at the post. We had 22 offensive rebounds and 21 second chance points."

Guard Latoya Jackson scored a game-high 25 points for Mercer. Guard Sarah Russell added 10 points. Also scoring 10 was TaShera Lewis.

"Jackson scored 22 points in the first half," Bennett said. "We held here to only three points in the second half."

Center Kourtney Carter led Mercer with eight rebounds. She also scored 10 points.

The Lady Bisons held a 44-32 advantage on the boards.

Mercer led 39-33 at the half, but the Lady Bisons rallied for a 40-31 second half edge.

The Lady Bisons raised their record to 5-16 overall, 3-4 in the A-Sun. Mercer slipped to 3-17, 0-7 in the conference.
