The Lady Bisons battled Florida Gulf Coast toe-to-toe for most of the game, but did not prevail.
A late surge by Florida Gulf Coast sealed a 66-51 Atlantic Sun win that was anything but as easy as it sounds. It was the first meeting between the two schools in women's basketball Monday night.
The Lady Bisons appeared to be set to break Florida Gulf Coast's six-game winning streak, taking a 29-28 edge at the intermission. But after nine lead changes and five ties in the second half Gulf Coast was able to take control.
For an eight-minute stretch neither team lead by more than two points.
The loss ended the Lady Bisons winning streak in the A-Sun to two games.
Freshman guard Jenna Bartsokas led the Lady Bisons with a season-high 16 points. It was her fourth double figure performance in the last six games.
Freshman forward Cree Nix tied her season high with 14 points. She scored 14 against Fisk Nov. 13..
Junior forward Jilian Partin grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds. She tied her season and career high set at Kennesaw State Jan. 28.
Delia de La Torre scored a game-high 17 points to lead Florida Gulf Coast. Mandi Pierce scored 12. Adrianne McNally and Chelsea Dermeyer each chipped in with 10.
The Lady Bisons held the advantage on the boards with 39-27.
From the field the Lady Bisons hit 23 of 52 shots (44.2 percent) and 4 of 12 from 3-point range (33.3 percent).
Florida Gulf Coast hit 24 of 56 shots from the field (42.9 percent).
The difference in the game was the Lady Bisons made 24 turnovers. Florida Gulf Coast had only 11 miscues.
The Lady Bisons are 6-17 overall, 4-5 in the A-Sun. Florida Gulf Coast is 12-7 overall, 7-2 in the A-Sun.
