MACON, Ga. – With the 2011-12 season in the books for the Lipscomb women’s basketball team, senior guard Anna Bowers and junior guard Morgan Faulkner have been named to the Atlantic Sun All-Academic team as announced by the league on Tuesday.
"It is a tremendous honor to have two players on the academic all conference team. Anna was one of the top players in the A-Sun all season and is an excellent student, said Lipscomb head coach Frank Bennett. "Morgan was a key player for us this year after being hampered by injury her sophomore year. She has only made one 'B' in college. Both are great people and are great examples of true student-athletes."
The award caps off a stellar career for Bowers, who became just the fourth player in school history to reach the 1,000-point mark and set the all-time mark for 3-pointers for the Lady Bison. Bowers led Lipscomb with a 13.2 points-per-night scoring average. In the classroom, the American studies major holds a 3.74 grade point average.
Faulkner was a mainstay in the Lipscomb lineup this season starting all 29 contests. She finished third on the team in scoring averaging 8.2 points per night. The veteran boasts a near perfect 3.97 grade point average in exercise science with a minor in biology.
The duo was joined on the team by Natalie Pickwell from ETSU, Courtney Chihil from FGCU, Taylor Mills from Kennesaw State and Sarah Hansen from FGCU, who was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
