Sunday, December 30, 2012 NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Lipscomb women’s basketball team will ring in the New Year with its Atlantic Sun Conference opener on Monday traveling to North Florida. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. in Jacksonville. Lipscomb is looking for its third-straight conference opening victory. The Lady Bisons opened conference play with an 80-70 victory over Mercer last season and turned in a 67-57 victory at Mercer in 2010. The Lady Bisons (1-9) continue to be led by senior Hannah Phillips, a top-20 returning scorer in the A-Sun from last season. She averages 12.8 points per game and also leads the team with six rebounds per game. Phillips leads the conference with 25 made 3-point field goals, an average of 2.5 made per game. North Florida (4-7) is led by Jadhken Kerr who averages 8.8 points per game while Fabila Josil scores 7.3 points per game. The Ospreys have the reigning A-Sun Player of the Week in Destinee Smith. She scored 20 points in UNF’s 69-58 victory over Coastal Carolina with 18 of her 20 points from behind the three-point line. Lipscomb is 2-11 all-time against the Ospreys, including a 73-64 victory last season at UNF Arena. In the squads’ second meeting last season, the Lady Bisons lost a close 61-58 contest.
