NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s basketball team will be working double-duty on Saturday as they host Mercer but also a fundraising effort for the Pat Summitt Foundation.

The festivities begin at 4 p.m. and 100 percent of the ticket sales will be donated to the Pat Summitt Foundation which serves as research to help find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.

Lipscomb head coach Greg Brown was an assistant for Summitt at Tennessee and sees how a game can be beneficial for a cause.

“A basketball game can bring awareness and an opportunity,” Brown said. “It is an opportunity to have an event, to get the message out and raise money.”

The Lady Bisons enter the game 2-15 overall and 1-6 in league play, after having lost at Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast this past week. Freshman Alex Banks averaged 12.5 points and 3.5 rebounds over that span while freshman Kelli Smith snagged 5.5 rebounds per game.

Since the start of conference play, Banks has led all freshmen in scoring, putting up 11.9 points per game. Freshman Mallory Charpentier leads the A-Sun shooting 50 percent from the field over the same time period.

Lipscomb ranks 30th in the NCAA with 7.1 made 3-point baskets per game. Senior Hannah Phillips and freshman Presley Stastny are tied for the team lead, draining 1.94 treys per game.

Mercer, 11-7 on the year and 5-2 in A-Sun action, is led by reigning A-Sun Player of the Week Precious Bridges who averages 17.3 points per game. Bridges averaged 23 points per game in the Bears victories over ETSU and USC Upstate last week enroute to winning the honor. Kendra Grant chips in 13 points per game while Ry’van Buchanan snags 6.2 rebounds, coming off the bench.

Saturday’s game can be seen on ESPN3 or via the WatchESPN app.
