NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Alex Banks may have been named to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshmen Team this year in basketball, but in high school Banks was a multi-sport star athlete. Her versatility was honored on Thursday night as she was named the High School Female Athlete of the Year by the Nashville Sports Council.
Honoring Middle Tennessee athletics, Banks was nominated as the top female athlete for her record setting year as a pitcher at Beech High School in Hendersonville.
The freshman set a single-season state record for wins with a 47-4 record, including a perfect game, two no-hitters and 25 shutouts. With a 1.36 ERA and 166 strikeouts, she earned Second Team All-American from Maxpreps.
Playing basketball at Beech, Banks averaged 14 points and eight rebounds per game while reaching 1,000 career points.

Assistant women’s basketball coach John Wild also received a team honor as his former team, Riverdale High School, earned the High School Female Team Athletics Award. Wild helped lead Riverdale to a 34-3 record and a No. 5 ESPN Hoopgurlz national ranking enroute to the D1 Class AAA state championship.
