MACON, Ga. – Lipscomb women’s soccer player Meghan McGuire was named co-Atlantic Sun Player of the Week, the conference office announced, Monday.
McGuire scored twice Friday night, including the eventual game-winner in the 76th minute, to lead Lipscomb to a tournament-opening victory against Southern Miss in the Mississippi State Bulldog Classic.
She is the first Lipscomb player to earn Player of the Week honors since Katie Shelton was the Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 27, 2008. She is the first Lipscomb offensive player to earn an A-Sun weekly award in the program’s history.
The Roseville, Minn., native leads the Lady Bisons with four goals this season, including two game-winners and two penalty kicks. She’s tied for second in the conference in goals this season.
McGuire, along with teammates Erin Zerio and Kelsey Reiman, earned all-tournament honors at the Bulldog Classic, with the Lady Bisons going 1-1-0 during the tournament.
McGuire and the rest of the Lady Bisons will be back in action, Thursday, when Lipscomb hosts Austin Peay in a 4:30 p.m. battle on the practice field behind Cofer’s Chapel Church.
