NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s soccer team hits the road for the final time in the 2012 season as it travels to USC Upstate and ETSU.
The Lady Bisons enter the weekend 2-8-4 overall and 0-4-2 in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Over the last weekend of play, Lipscomb played to a 0-0 draw against Mercer and a 3-2 loss to Kennesaw State.
Goalkeeper Erin Zerio stopped all eight shots that came her way for her fourth shutout on the season and ninth in her career in the Bisons tie of the A-Sun’s third-ranked team, Mercer.
In the 3-2 loss to Kennesaw State, the Lady Bisons fell in an early 3-0 hole before fighting back and coming within inches of knotting the score at 3-3. Sophomore Brittany Rupple connected on two penalty kicks and senior Andie Thornton missed just inches to the right, to tie the game.
With six saves in the contest, Zerio broke the top-10 all-time saves list for the Atlantic Sun Conference with 324 career stops. Next on the all-time list is Erin Switalski who had 329 saves for Campbell.
USC Upstate enters Friday’s match 2-12-0 overall and 0-5-0 in A-Sun play. Playing their travel partner last weekend, ETSU, the Spartans fell 3-0.
Michelle Calmeyn leads Upstate with three points, having scored a goal and dished an assist. Goalkeeper Sarah Plantz has played in and started in 13 games accumulating an A-Sun high 90 saves. Plantz has a 2.96 goals against average and a .698 save percentage.
ETSU enters the weekend 9-4-0 overall and 3-2 in conference play, holding the sixth and final spot for the A-Sun Conference Tournament. In last weekend’s 3-0 victory over USC Upstate, the Bucs received a goal from Morgan Thomas and two goals from Ramey Kerns.
The Buccaneer offense revolves around Kerns as she has set an ETSU single-season record with 33 points. The conference leader with 15 goals on 57 shots, Kerns has also added three assists. Sarah Zadrazil is second on the team with 16 points, scoring four goals and assisting on eight goals.
Lipscomb returns home for the final regular season game of the year, “Senior Night”, hosting new A-Sun member Northern Kentucky on Saturday, Oct. 20.
