NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb’s women’s soccer head coach Kevin O’Brien was pleased by the performance of his team after recording two shutouts in the preseason.
“I thought the overall performance was good,” O’Brien said. “There’s still a lot of room to grow.
“We’ve got another week before we open up the regular season, but I’m real confident we’re moving in the right direction.”
The team collected a pair of victories during preseason bouts with Southeast Missouri State and Belmont.
Capturing a 2-0 preseason record, the purple and gold shut out SEMO Monday night 1-0 after junior Alex Hickey scored the only goal recorded for the competition.
The team traveled down the road Friday night to battle crosstown rival Belmont where they picked up a 2-0 victory.
Sophomore Ellen Lundy led the team scoring two goals to shut out Belmont Friday night.
Sophomore goalie Anna Buhigas started in both games logging two saves against SEMO and two against Belmont.
Freshman goalie Kate Mason took over for Buhigas playing the second half of both games picking up 10 saves collectively.
“I certainly feel like the girls have learned the system we’re going to be playing and the adaptations to what we did last year,” O’Brien said. “I feel like compared to the squad we had last year we’re stronger, we’re deeper, and we’re ready to get after it.”
The women’s soccer team will kick off the first game of the regular season Friday August 22 as they host Western Kentucky at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex at 7 p.m.
