Opening the match with a statement, the Lady Bisons quickly won the doubles point.
At No. 1 doubles, Elizabeth Keevil and Mackenzie Bishop kept their winning streak going by defeating Mallory Waites and Victoria Rees 8-4. The duo has not dropped a match yet this season, playing at both the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.
Kara Jackson and Danielle Hansen beat Lenka Hola and Teresa Franco at No. 2 doubles 8-3.
Finishing off the doubles play, Julianne McMeen and Carlina Jow defeated Jessica Keehn and Ashley Alfonso at No. 3 with a score of 8-4.
With a clean sweep in doubles, the Lady Bisons took a 1-0 edge over North Alabama.
Hansen came off court first at No. 3 after suffering a tough three set loss to Hola 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. This tied the match score at 1-1.
Putting the Lady Bisons in the lead 2-1, Jackson defeated Franco at No. 4 in yet another three set match, winning 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
A loss in the No. 2 spot evened the match score to 2-2. Keevil fell to Waites 0-6, 6-3, 6-4.
In a third close three set match, Bishop put the Lady Bisons up 3-2 with her win at the No. 1 spot, defeating Rees 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
With a 3-2 lead over North Alabama, the Lady Bisons picked up two easy wins at No. 5 and No. 6.
Jow rolled past Alfonso at No. 5, winning handily 6-2, 6-1.
At No. 6 McMeen crushed opponent Keehn 6-0, 6-1,
The Lady Bisons finished the match with a 5-2 victory. With this win, their record is 2-1.
“It wasn’t the best that I have seen us play this year,” said Coach Kristin Lusk. “But it was overall a good team effort and a good win. We get a chance to play better tennis tomorrow against Western Kentucky.”
The Lady Bisons travel to Western Kentucky Saturday, Feb. 13. Match play begins at 1 p.m.
