The Lady Bisons traveled to Chattanooga for the Steve Baras Fall Invitational, picking up four wins as a team in the individual tournament.

Junior Elizabeth Keevil led the Lady Bisons, competing in the Flight 1 Singles draw. Keevil fell in the round of 16 to UAB’s Giorgia Romeo 6-0, 6-3. Keevil was defeated in the first round of the consolation draw by Vivian Mariani from Jacksonville State University in a three-set match with a super-tie breaker acting in lieu of a third set, 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (10-3).

The Lady Bisons had two players competing in the Flight 2 singles draw, senior Kara Jackson and junior Danielle Hansen.

Jackson picked up the Bisons first win, defeating Wofford’s Stephanie Cox in the round of 16, 6-4, 6-3. Jackson went on to lose in the quarterfinals to University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s Alexa Flynn 6-2, 6-0.

Hansen fell in the round of 16, losing to Jacksonville State’s Juliana Renesto in a tight two setter, 7-5, 7-6(3). Hansen was unable to secure a win in the consolation bracket, falling to MTSU’s Marietta Bigus 6-2, 6-1.

Freshman Alyssa Bellini and sophomore Carlina Jow represented the Lady Bisons in the Flight 3 Singles draw.

Bellini secured a win for the Lady Bisons in the round of 16, defeating University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s Charlotte Bossy 6-4, 7-5. Bellini was then defeated in the quarterfinals to UAB’s Jenny Cape 6-2, 6-1.

Jow fell in the round of 16 to UTC’s Diana Zora 6-3, 6-0 before going on to earn a victory in the first round of the consolation draw, defeating Esmira Gheisary from Eastern Kentucky University 6-4, 7-5. Jow was defeated in the semifinals of the consolation draw by UAB’s Menansleau Moolan 6-1, 6-2.

Senior Julianne McMeen and junior Samantha Bowman competed in the Flight 4 Singles draw for the Lady Bisons.

McMeen lost in the round of 16 to Lee’s Emily Orist in a tight three-setter, eventually falling 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. McMeen went on to win her first match in the consolation bracket, defeating Aleksandra Cmijic from JSU in another three-setter, this time coming out on top, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0(8).

Bowman was unable to secure a victory in the round of 16, falling to Wofford’s Sam Sullivan 6-3, 6-0 before going on to lose her consolation match to EKU’s Sophie O’Neil 6-2, 6-4.

The Lady Bisons did not find much success with doubles for the weekend, failing to secure any victories.

First time partners, Jackson and Bellini, competing in the Flight 1 Doubles draw, were defeated by JSU’s Marani and Dessbesell 8-1 before losing in the consolation round to Wofford’s Baird and Cohen 8-1.

In the Flight 3 Doubles draw, Keevil and Hansen also fell to a Wofford duo, Sullivan and Cox, 8-6 and went on to be defeated by UTC’s Wishing and Green 8-5.

Second year partners, McMeen and Jow, fell in their doubles match in the Flight 4 draw, losing to Lee’s Garner and Sandberg 8-3.

The Lady Bisons will compete Oct. 8-Oct. 10 when they travel to the University of Tennessee at Martin.
