Wednesday, October 06, 2010Jamie Aid has been named the assistant women’s tennis coach for the Lipscomb Lady Bisons.
“I was weighing whether or not to come back to Lipscomb and be in the college arena again,” Aid said. “I just felt like it was the right thing to do to come back to where it all started if I did want to coach college tennis.
“I grew so much at Lipscomb as a person, as an athlete and as a leader. I want to instill that in the players that Lipscomb has on the team right now.”
She will officially start on Monday, Oct. 18th.
"We are very excited to have Jamie back on board with us,” Andrew Harris, men’s and women’s head coach, said. “She has done some tremendous things at Ensworth over the past few years and we are looking forward to her vision and leadership with the women's program. Being a former Bison she understands the type of student-athlete we want to have in our program."
Aid has been the Director of Tennis at Ensworth High School in Franklin and also coached the women’s team.
“I came to Ensworth five years ago to build the tennis program from scratch,” Aid said. “I am leaving something that I built and that is hard to leave.
“There are emotional ties. You have players that you have run through your program and that is always hard to step away from. I felt like Ensworth was a great learning experience and a great stepping stone to what I am going to be doing now.”
From 2003 to 2006 Aid was a member of the Lady Bisons tennis team. She transferred from Samford and then spent a year at Lipscomb as a medical redshirt. She also served as captain of the varsity team.
A Nashville native, Aid graduated from Lipscomb University where she earned a B.S. in Exercise Science and Biology. She was named to the Academic All-Conference team and was also recognized as an NCAA Division I Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athlete.
Aid has also served as USTA Junior tournament director, has sat on the TSSAA Tennis Rules and Regulations Committee has been the point person for the middle sector determining seeding for TSSAA team and individual tournaments.
