After defeating Mercer 4-3 on Friday, the Lady Bisons were swept by Kennesaw State on Saturday, falling 7-0 at Whitworth Country Club.
“Every conference match is tough and tonight Kennesaw was a good team,” women’s assistant coach Jamie Aid said. “We will have a good practice this week with our girls and look forward to our next match. Our girls are fighting; they are improving. Friday illustrated we are moving in the right direction with the victory over Mercer.”
The Lady Bisons fell to an early 1-0 deficit to start off the match by losing the doubles point 3-0.
Senior Kara Jackson and freshman Alyssa Bellini were defeated at No. 1 by Shkundira and Hotton 8-2, while juniors Danielle Hansen and Elizabeth Keevil fell 8-5 to Palider and Logerkvist at No. 2. At No. 3, senior Julianne McMeen and sophomore Carlina Jow lost to Apostu and Carney 8-3.
The Lady Bisons went on to drop all six of their singles matches and suffer the 7-0 sweep.
Keevil was defeated at No. 1 by Shkundina 6-, 6-1 at the No. 1 singles spot, while Jackson fell at No. 2 to Holton 6-3, 6-4.
Bellini posted the Lady Bisons’ best scores for the day, falling just short of taking the first set but going on to lose to Apostu 7-6, 6-3 at No. 3.
At No. 4, Hansen lost 6-3, 6-2 to Palider, and Jow fell 6-0, 6-2 to Lagerkvist at No. 5.
After losing the first set, McMeen fought back to make it a close second set but fell to Carney 6-1, 6-4 at No. 6.
The Lady Bisons are now 1-1 in conference play and 2-6 overall. They will be back in action Tuesday, March 8 when they face UT-Chattanooga at 2 p.m. at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center.
