Wednesday, January 26, 2011Juli Stephens grew up in the Nashville area, and attended David Lipscomb High School before attending Lipscomb University. She then played tennis for the Lady Bisons while working towards a degree in communications. Juli now stays busy working as a substitute teacher and raising her three boys with her husband Jason. She took a moment to talk about her time at Lipscomb with lipscombsports.com
What sport did you play at Lipscomb? What years? Who were your coaches?
“I played for the Lady Bisons tennis team from 1990-1993. I was the captain for the '91-'92 and the '92-'93 seasons. Coach Trish Duty Hodgson was our coach.”
What is your fondest athletic memory at Lipscomb?
“My fondest athletic memories from my time at Lipscomb include some great matches against Belmont and Freed-Hardeman, but my best memories are of the times our team had traveling to matches and spending time together as a team. Our spring break trips to Hilton Head were always memorable, and our teammates all worked together so well.”
Who had the biggest influence on you during your athletic career at Lipscomb? How?
“Coach Hodgson was a great influence on me. She taught me not only about tennis, but about competition and how to work well with people.”
What is the most valuable thing you gained or learned from your time at Lipscomb?
“The most life changing event that happened during my time at Lipscomb was meeting my husband, Jason Stephens '93. I am so appreciative of the opportunity to attend such a great university and learn so many skills which I still use every day.”
Who was your favorite professor? Why?
“My favorite professors were those in the communications department. Their knowledge has helped me as well as so many others to graduate and obtain jobs in communications. The professors in the department were not only great teachers, but also great mentors and wonderful Christian influences.”
Where do you live now?
Chesapeake, Ohio. My e-mail address is firstname.lastname@example.org.
Who is your employer? What is your occupation? What does your position entail?
“I am working as a substitute teacher in the Chesapeake School District after being a stay-at-home mom to our three boys for several years while they were young.”
Tell us about your family.
“Jason and I have been married for 16 years. We live on a small farm in Chesapeake, Ohio with our three sons, Sawyer (14), Wesley (13) and Jackson (7). Jason has been the County Commissioner for Lawrence County for 10 years. He was recently elected county Auditor and will take office in March. He is also part owner of Stephens & Son Insurance. Our boys are very active in sports and keep us busy. I still love playing tennis and appreciate the wonderful times I had at Lipscomb University.”
