Friday, April 01, 2011The Lady Bisons posted their second Atlantic Sun Conference win on Friday afternoon when they took down USC-Upstate 6-1 in Spartanburg, S.C.
"Our ladies today did what we have been working on all week long, coming out strong and playing smart,” women’s assistant coach Jamie Aid said. “They played with a positive mentality that allowed them to fight, thus, having an outcome of a win. Right now our girls feel good physically and are ready to play hard against a good Campbell University team Saturday."
The Lady Bisons jumped out to an early lead with a sweep of the doubles point.
Senior Kara Jackson and freshman Alyssa Bellini defeated Martinez and Camberos at No. 1 by a score of 8-5, while juniors Elizabeth Keevil and Danielle Hansen posted an 8-4 win at No. 2 over Tonani and Rojas.
Senior Julianne McMeen and Carlina Jow topped off the doubles play with an 8-1 win at No. 3 over Estupinan and Kropsaydor.
The Lady Bisons transferred their momentum into singles play, going on to win five of their six matches.
The Lady Bisons’ only loss came at No. 2, where Keevil was defeated by Camberos 6-3, 7-5.
Jackson managed to hold on in a close second set to record a win at No. 1 over Tonani 6-2, 7-6(8-6). At No. 3, Bellini prevailed through a three-setter after losing the first set, winning over Matinez 5-7, 6-0, 6-1.
Hansen also posted a three set win at No. 4, defeating Rojas 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. At No. 5, McMeen breezed through the competition, only dropping one game, handily taking down Estupinan 6-1, 6-0.
At No. 6, Jow posted a solid win, easily defeating Kropsaydor 6-2, 6-0 to wrap up the Lady Bisons win.
The win advanced the Lady Bisons’ conference record to 2-6.
