The Lipscomb Lady Bisons posted the second highest grade point average in the nation earning academic team honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
West Virginia University had the highest overall team GPA (3.580), followed closely by Lipscomb University (3.540), and Utah State University (3.500).
"It is an amazing honor for the men's and women's track & field teams,” said Bill Taylor, Lipscomb’s track and field and cross country coach. “I am extremely proud of them and pleased that we have set this tone in my first year at Lipscomb University.
“It is an indication of the quality of our student-athletes and our desire to excel in all areas. This is the true spirit of what being an NCAA division I student-athlete is all about. As we continue to improve dramatically athletically, I expect we will also increase our academic achievements as well. It is a very exciting time for the men's and women's cross country and track & field programs at Lipscomb."
The USTFCCCA recognized 117 Division I women’s track and field programs were recognized as 2008 All-Academic Track and Field Teams. The Big 12 Conference, the Big East Conference, and the Big Ten Conference led all conferences with eight member schools each on the All-Academic team list.
To be nominated, the team must carry a minimum 3.00 team cumulative grade-point average.
