NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Atlantic Sun Conference named its Women’s Indoor Track and Field Academic All-Conference Team on Tuesday, with Lipscomb garnering six of the 12 spots team. Junior Dani Walker received the top-honor as the Scholar Athlete of the Year, going 3-for-3 on the top post season awards.
“We always take pride in our academic achievements, as much as our ever increasing athletic accomplishments,” Bill Taylor, director of cross country and track and field, said. “It is a big point of emphasis in our program.”
Walker earned the top honor with a 3.41 GPA as an Exercise Science/Kinesiology major. Walker also claimed MVP of the A-Sun Indoor Championships and the Women’s Top Track performer awards previously from the indoor season.
“Dani has certainly put the two together, along with missions work and being a team captain,” Taylor said. “She takes care of everything and strives for excellence in all things. This is another well-deserved, well-earned honor for her.”
Joining Walker on the All-Academic Team as unanimous choice is Maggie Lawrence. Lawrence is a sophomore Biology major who competes in track and cross country with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Also with a 4.0 GPA is sophomore Brenna Thompson. Thompson, majoring in Biology, finished fourth in the A-Sun Championships in the 400 meter dash and competed on the record-breaking distance medley relay squad.
Tessa Hoefle, a two-time all-conference honoree this season, was named a member of the academic squad with a 4.0 GPA in English. Hoefle, a junior, earned all-conference honors in the 3000-meter run and 5000-meter run.
Katie Bunker, also a member of the DMR team, joined the all-academic team with a 3.71 GPA in Biology. Bunker, a junior, claimed all-conference honors by finishing third in the 800-meter run at the A-Sun Championships.
Sophomore thrower April Terry joins the squad with a 3.82 GPA in Psychology. Terry, who had a record-breaking year in both the shot put and weight throw, earned all-conference at the A-Sun Championships by finishing second in the shot put.
“I’m really happy we are really well represented on the Women’s Academic All-Conference team,” Taylor said. “This is what being a student-athlete is all about and I am proud of our team for performing at the top of the conference in all aspects.”
