WALNUT, Calif. – Lipscomb’s track and field squads competed at the Mt. Sac Relays for their first day of weekend competition.
The team struggled in their search to post better results than those seen the past two weeks.
“Today did not go as hoped for the Bisons at the Mt. Sac Relays,” said Luke Syverson, assistant track and field coach.
Tucker Peabody was scheduled to compete in his best events, but couldn’t extend his successes on Friday.
“Tucker struggled in both the 100 meters and the 200 meters today,” Syverson said. “He looked uncharacteristically sluggish for some reason so we'll have to learn from today and move forward.”
Peabody finished the 100 meters in 10.67 and the 200 meters in 21.21.
Andrew Bosket saw his own set of struggles in the 800 meters. He finished out the event with a time of 1:54.81.
“The race started out real fast and was pretty aggressive in terms of positioning with lots of elbows and pushing,” Syverson said. “Andrew stayed out of it for the most part but left himself too much track to catch up.”
Colin Dempster fought hard in the 400 meters but ultimately failed to record a top finish, crossing the line in 47.93.
“Colin had to race out of lane one and finished second in his heat but got out of the blocks slow,” Syverson said. “I think overall, this was his second fastest time of the season but he was looking for more and could have gotten it.”
Overall the group did not perform up to par, but will still use Friday’s results as a learning experience.
“I told the guys afterwards that ‘experience is what you get when you don't get what you wanted,’ and we definitely got experience today,” Syverson said.
The competition will continue Saturday where Gemikal Prude will be putting his best foot forward as he competes in the elite high jump.
“Saturday will be a big day for Gemikal as he will be jumping against some of the best high jumpers in the U.S. and the world,” Syverson said. “It will, at the base level, be a good experience that will pay off in future competitions. We look forward to how he competes and responds to the opportunity.”
