Lipscomb's track and field team is heading into the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships at Vanderbilt this weekend on a high note.
The women's team finished with five top-5 finishes in the Austin Peay Invitational in Clarksville Saturday. The men recorded a first in field competition and two top three finishes in track events.
Leading the way for the Lady Bisons was junior Ruth Mick with a first place finish in the 800 meter run (2:18.53). Sophomore Elizabeth Schall had a second place finish in the 1500 (4:40.10) and sophomore Brittany Miller finished second in the 400 meter hurdles (1:04.63).
Freshman Jessie Strange finished fifth in the javelin (31.61m), while freshman Lisa Carter finished fifth in the triple jump (10.47m).
On the men's side, freshman Jonathan Heffington finished first in the discus (37.20m) and second in the javelin (36.92m). Juniors Weldon Ehlert and Zac Yanis had solid showings in the 1500 meter run, finishing second and third respectively (4:02.23 and 4:07.73).
"This was a good meet to get ready for the conference championships," said Lipscomb Coach Clay Nicks. "I was pleased with our effort this weekend."
The track and field teams will compete in the Atlantic Sun championships this weekend on Friday and Saturday. Belmont is the host school and the meet will be held at Vanderbilt University.
