MACON, Ga. – Lipscomb sophomore Tucker Peabody was named Men’s Track Athlete of the Week and freshman April Terry earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, the Atlantic Sun Conference office announced Wednesday.
Peabody earned his third career weekly A-Sun honor by winning the 60m (7.09s) and 200m (21.59s) dashes at the Indiana Hoosier Hills. He was also part of the 4x400m relay team’s school-record 3:21.30s run.
This is Peabody’s second weekly A-Sun honor this year; he also won on Jan. 18. His 21.59s 200m mark leads the A-Sun and is 33rd-best in the in nation.
"Another great meet for Tucker,” Lipscomb head coach Bill Taylor said. “He continues to improve and impress and deserves every honor he receives."
Terry broke the school shot put record at the Hoosier Hills with her 11.74m (38’ 6.25”) toss. She finished 13th in the meet and is currently seventh in the conference in the shot put and the weight throw.
This is Terry’s first A-Sun weekly honor. She’s the first Lipscomb field athlete to win a weekly award since O’Neisha Smith won the high jump at the Boston Moon Classic in 2011.
"This is a great honor for April,” Lipscomb assistant coach Luke Syverson said. “She is one of the most coachable athletes on the team and works hard to improve. She is the top freshman thrower in the conference and has been learning the weight throw from scratch this winter. April will only continue to improve a ton and I'm excited to see what she can accomplish.”
Peabody, Terry and the rest of the Bison and Lady Bison track and field athletes will compete at the Atlantic Sun Indoor Championships, this weekend in Johnson City, Tenn.
