ATLANTA, Ga. – With competition turning fierce in the fight for spots in the NCAA Preliminary Rounds, the Lipscomb track and field teams turned in impressive performances at this weekend’s Georgia Tech Invitational.
Sophomore Dani Walker capped a strong season with a school-record 800m run, finishing 11th with a 2:09.73s mark. She also earned a third-place mark in the 5000m run with a 17:10.20s mark.
Freshman Kendra Lobley was the Lady Bisons top 5K finisher. She was the runner-up in the event at 17:03.26s. Senior Ashley Lehman (17:22.21s) and sophomore Tessa Hoefle (17:24.80s) finished fifth and seventh, respectively, in the event.
Sophomore Alex Newby (10th, 17:46.68s), freshman Maggie Lawrence (18:03.21s), senior Louisa van Batavia (15th, 18:21.93s) and freshman Renee’ Menzie (16th, 18:27.15s) also competed in the 5K.
Junior Geoff Musick (22nd, 15:47.94s) competed in the men’s 5000m run.
April Terry ended her freshman season as the owner of four school-records, including the shot put record set Friday. She finished sixth at 12.70m (41’ 8”).
In the 3000m steeplechase, junior Ashton Fisher came in fourth with a 9:33.87s mark.
Sophomore Tucker Peabody and freshman Colin Dempster had tough days in the sprints. Peabody finished 32nd in the 100m dash at 10.77s, while Dempster’s 48.34s mark placed him 35th.
