MACON, Ga. – Capping off her career as a student-athlete, Lipscomb women’s basketball player and track and field thrower Brittany Duerk was chosen by the Atlantic Sun Conference to receive one of two NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships awarded by the league.
“Brittany has been the model of what you'd want a student-athlete to be and I am proud of her for earning this well-deserved award,” said Lipscomb athletics director Philip Hutcheson. “Since the day she arrived on our campus, she has given a championship effort in the classroom, on the court and on the track.
“Even with all of the time demands of being a stellar student and two-sport athlete, she has found a way to be involved in campus life and community service activities as well. The Atlantic Sun motto is ‘Building Winners For Life’, and in giving Brittany this award, they have certainly recognized someone who has exemplified that ideal throughout her time here.”
A regular starter for the Lady Bison basketball team the past three seasons and a contributor for the track and field program in throws, Duerk is headed to Lipscomb’s pharmacy school in the fall and plans to get her pharmacy degree before heading across town to Vanderbilt to complete her PHD in pharmacology in a dual PharmD/PHD collaborative program between the two schools.
Duerk was joined by Stetson’s Maksim Levanovich in receiving the A-Sun postgraduate scholarship.
