NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After a memorable performance at the Atlantic Sun Women’s Indoor Championships last weekend, Lipscomb’s Dani Walker has been selected as the Most Outstanding Track Performer.
Walker received this award as voted on by the coaches, which makes the second year in a row Walker has been recognized with this achievement.
"Dani has been such a key member of our program and the ever increasing success we have had,” said Bill Taylor, director of track and field. “Last year we set her up specifically to win these honors. This year we really didn’t.”
Walker made her way out of the championships scoring 33.25 points after claiming wins in the 800 meters, mile run, and 3000 meters.
She finished first in the mile run posting a finishing time of 4:55.68 while also taking first in the 3000 meters finishing in 9:46.49. Her time of 2:13.31 landed her the first place spot in the 800 meters as well.
Walker was also a contributing factor in the women’s distance medley relay, which took second place in the championships with a time of 12:01.15.
As a result of scoring the most points in the championships, Walker was also awarded the A-Sun MVP award, which she also received at last year’s competition.
“Dani has incredible talent and range,” Taylor said. “She can run 56 in the 400 meters and 16's or better in the 5k. That’s hard to beat."
Walker currently holds the A-Sun record for the 3000 meters with a time of 9:37.98 and was an All-Conference selection last year for her efforts in the mile run, 3000 meters, and 5000 meters.
“For her to have such a great indoor championship was exciting now and encouraging for the rest of the season,” Taylor said. “She definitely earned these honors."
