Deborah Spencer Garner played basketball for Lipscomb from 1988-92 and helped lead the Lady Bisons to a four-year record high of 99 wins. As a freshman in 1989, Deborah played a significant role in the program’s first-ever TCAC Conference championship. The team followed that success in 1990, earning Lipscomb Women’s Basketball’s first-ever District 24 Championship and Tri-District Championship. During that 1990 season Deborah led the team on a memorable end-of-season four game winning streak – all on the road – to dramatically advance to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time. A prolific scorer, Deborah established herself in Lady Bison record books as the second-highest scoring guard (1,494 points), placing her eighth all-time in Lady Bison scoring ranks. Deborah was more than just a scorer, though. She was a complete player who dished out 393 career assists to rank among the leaders in that category as well. Deborah was named All-TCAC in 1991 and TCAC Scholar Athlete three times (1990, 1991 and 1992.) In 2011 Deborah was honored with induction into the Huntsville/Madison County (Alabama) Athletic Hall of Fame. Deborah Spencer Garner will be remembered for her role in building a solid foundation for Lady Bisons Basketball.
