Wade Tomlinson played basketball for Lipscomb from 1987-90 and established himself as an outstanding passer, rebounder, shooting guard, and teammate. During his career under Coach Don Meyer, he played a key role in leading the Bisons to national prominence as college basketball’s winningest program. His teams won a total of 139 games in Wade’s four years: 27-6 (1987), 33-3 (1988), 38-2 (1989), and 41-5 (1990). The 41 wins established a national record for wins by college basketball teams in a single season. In each of Wade’s four seasons his team earned the #1 national ranking at some point in the year. Wade Tomlinson was known for his toughness, gritty defense, ball-handling skills and his outstanding three-point shooting. He was the ultimate team player, grabbing more than 450 rebounds and dishing out more than 300 assists. Moreover, Wade could also score: he shot an impressive 45.5% from the three-point line and finished his career with 1,792 points, a total that placed him as Lipscomb’s 7thth all-time leading scorer.
