NASVHILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb University is pleased to announce the 2011-12 Cheerleading squad.
Coach Amy Benefield introduced the team and praised their talent: “We had an amazing turnout at tryouts, with so much incredible talent on display. I am very excited to work with this group.”
The 17-member team is comprised of two seniors, five juniors, four sophomores, and six freshmen. Ten team members return from last year, while seven newcomers join the squad.
“I like the blend of experience and new,” added Benefield, entering her fifth year as Lipscomb coach. “The upperclassmen have done such a good job establishing the way we do things in the past few years, and the talent level of the new girls is just astounding to me.”
Benefield also helped explain her description of a Lipscomb Cheerleader: “We ask our cheerleaders to understand their important responsibility as representatives of Lipscomb, our student-athletes, our fans, and even our tradition. This is a really special group of young women who understands their role extends way beyond the basketball court – we are Lipscomb to the people we visit at the Children’s Hospital, school classrooms, and special groups.”
