NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A first-time ever poll has the Lipscomb volleyball team ranked 20th nationally.
VolleyballMag.com has issued its inaugural Mid-Major Poll and Rosenthal likes where his team is ranked. Lipscomb is tied with Ohio for the 20th spot.
“I feel like it is exactly where we are,” Rosenthal said. “I feel honored we are in it. When you look at those teams some of them are in the top 25 in the major polls.
“I think we take for granted sometimes what has happened to this program and how far it has come. I am proud we are in the inaugural one.”
The poll features teams from 27 non-power conferences, including the ASUN. It is the first of its type in NCAA volleyball according to the release.
“Being a mid-major we fight a different battle sometimes,” Rosenthal said. “The fun part about it is our peers on the voting committee have recognized us.
“I think we have worked hard to make a name for ourselves nationally. As far as publicity any chance we can get Lipscomb volleyball’s name out there on a national scale is something I am all for.”
Rosenthal thinks the additional recognition for teams is a positive for the sport.
“This poll is a great idea,” Rosenthal said. “They have a mid-major poll in basketball. Our sport has grown to this point.”
