Nashville All-Sports Camp: life changing for all involved

The 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup was not the only summer sporting event that assembled athletes from all across the globe as Lipscomb Athletics brought together 55 young campers from more than ten countries for its Nashville All-Sports Camp, June 24-28.

Led by director of spiritual formation, Christopher Klotz, the camp saw local six through 11-year-olds, including 17 refugee students from Mexico, Honduras, Burma, Sudan, the Congo, Uganda, Thailand, Nepal, Syria, Iraq spend the week learning and playing multiple sports in a positive, high-energy environment, as well as engaging in an intentional Bible curriculum.

With a camp theme of “I AM,” and theme verse of John 1:12, campers learned about their identity as children of God, and also discovered who they are in Jesus.

“It is incredibly humbling to see how God worked within every single detail of this camp,” said Klotz. “We were blessed to hold camp this year at the McCAdams Athletic Center which served as a perfect venue! We had an amazing staff, incredible campers, selfless volunteers preparing and serving lunch as well as generous donors who provided scholarships that provided a way for 17 children to attend camp. All of this can only be brought together by the hand of God!”

"I loved my counselor, Coach Dynamite, because she was so kind and made the week fun!  My favorite sport was flag football and I loved learning and singing the "My Favorite Day!" song.  The camp is so much fun with lots of different games." -Emerson (camper age 6)

“I wish that this camp could go all year long and last two weeks out of every month. I made a  new friend named John. He was funny and he danced a lot. He came up to me every day and gave me big hugs! It was my favorite camp of the summer! -Parker (camper age 6)

"All Sports Camp is fun and amazing!!  I loved all the games, but my favorite was soccer because it is my favorite sport!  The counselors were all so nice and helped us, and I loved it when they told us about themselves.  I want to go back every year!  Thanks for letting us have so much fun!" - Hudson (camper age 8)

“I can think of a thousand things to say about camp! Sports camp is very awesome in all different ways!!! In sports, in games… in EVERYTHING!”  -David (camper age 10)

“I wish camp was longer because I got to spend time with people that I normally don’t get to be around. I loved learning more about myself and how God takes care of us no matter what we do.”  -Zaylee (camper age 10)

“Sports camp helped me meet new friends and also find interest in sports. Overall it was the BEST week of the summer!” -Khaw Ti (camper)

"All Sports Camp is my kids favorite camp of the summer and something that they look forward to all year long!  They love the relationships they build with their counselors, and look up to them as Godly role models.  They walk away learning Biblical truths each day, while also being exposed to lots of different games!  The sports are adapted for all ages and skill levels, so that everyone can play and have fun. This camp is seriously one of the highlights of their summer, and we are so thankful for the leaders who make this camp possible!" -Brooke (mom)
