NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Molly Grant's late heroics in overtime lifted the Bisons over the Lions and kept Lipscomb's bid to host the west side of the ASUN tournament alive on Sunday afternoon in Nashville.
The opening chances of the game favored the Bisons.
Cami Rogers created a pair of opportunities in the early goings and continued to knock on the door as she went on to lead all participants in shots with seven on the match. Despite creating most of the chances however, the Bisons were unable to open the scoring.
The season trends did not favor Lipscomb at the end of a scoreless first 45 minutes. Coming into the game the Bisons had not won a game, or even scored in matches when they failed to net a goal in the first half. The same looked to be true as the Bisons dominated play in the second half but struggled to find the opener they searched for. Lipscomb dominated in shots racking up 31 compared to the Lions' six but found themselves in a sudden-death overtime period.
The domination for Lipscomb continued into the added period as Lipscomb fired off a pair of shots to get things going. Just seven minutes later Grant collected a ball inside the 18-yard box and curled home the game winning goal to clinch three points and an ASUN Tournament berth for the Bisons.
The win sets the stage for high drama in the Bisons' season finale when they host the ASUN West division leaders, Central Arkansas. The Bisons sit three points off the Bears with a chance to draw level, and potentially earn the right to host the first two rounds of the ASUN Championship.
