Softball Goes 0-2 In Saturday Doubleheader vs North Alabama

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Sometimes it is not how many hits you get, but when you get them and how hard you hit them.

The Lipscomb Lady Bisons softball team out-hit North Alabama in an ASUN doubleheader but lost both games Saturday afternoon at Draper Diamond at Smith Stadium.

North Alabama held off a late rally by the Lady Bisons in game one for a 4-3 win.

In game two, a two-run triple to right center by Meleah Hargett and a two-run homer by Harley Stokes to left center in the fifth produced four runs. A grand slam home run in the seventh by Emma Broadfoot gave the Lions an 8-2 win.

Lipscomb is 10-12 overall, 1-4 in the ASUN. North Alabama is 17-3, 5-0 in conference play.

The miscommunication on an infield pop-up with two outs in the seventh loaded the bases for the Lions. Instead of ending the inning, the error sent Broadfoot to the plate. She sent the ball over the left center field fence despite a valiant leaping effort at the wall by center fielder Makayla Alvey.

Lipscomb took the early lead in game two scoring one run as Presley Leebrick grounded out to second base to bring in Alvey.

In the sixth Kamrie Rich opened with a double to left center. Kelly Paulson replaced Rich as a pinch runner and scored on a single up the middle by Caitlin Turner.

Sidney Revels (4-0) threw a complete game for the Lions. She allowed eight hits and two runs, one earned. She walked one and struck out one.

Maddie Siemer evened her record at 2-2 with the loss. She pitched five innings with five hits and four runs, all earned. She struck out five and walked four.

Katie Turner pitched the final two innings. She gave up four runs, all unearned on one hit. She walked two and struck out one.

In game one, the Lady Bisons trailed North Alabama 4-1 in the seventh. The Lions opened with two runs in the first and added two more in the fifth.

Lipscomb's first run in the fourth was the result of a sacrifice fly to left field by Katelyn Belding.

In the seventh Amy Vetula singled to left field with one out. After the second out, Olivia Ward also singled to left field. Rich followed with a deep single to left center that brought home Vetula and Ward. Paulson, who pinch ran for Rich, was left stranded at second to end the game.

Vetula and Rich each connected for three hits. Kyndall Crawford added two hits, including a double.

Megan Garst ran her record to 7-3 scattering nine hits, walking one and striking out seven.

Breana Burke (6-5) went the distance for Lipscomb. She allowed seven hits, walked seven, hit one batter and struck out five.

Extra Innings:
  • Vetula stole as base in each game. She leads the team with 11.
  • It was the third three-hit game of the season for Vetula and her team-leading ninth multi-hit performance.
  • Rich has eight multi-hit games. It was her second game with three hits.
  • Crawford has multiple hits in four games.
  • Caitlin Turner's two hits in game two give her four multi-hit games.
  • It was the second multi-RBI game for Rich in game one.
