NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Spurred on by substitutes
Shadia Valenzuela and
Tori Wheeler, Lipscomb battled back from an early one-goal deficit but was ultimately unable to find a winning goal in a physical draw with ETSU on Sunday afternoon.
As is their custom, the Bisons started the game on the front foot.
Kammy McGee Cami Rogers, and
Molly Grant all took chances at goal but were unable to put the Bisons on top early.
In the 23
rd minute of the first half the Bucs broke through. From a free kick just outside the box Raffaella Giuliano curled her shot up and over the wall and past
CJ Graham to give ETSU a one-goal advantage.
Coach O'Brien made his changes just minutes after going down a goal. Valenzuela replaced Grant at the forward position while Wheeler replaced
Noa Ganthier in the midfield. It took just minutes for the duo to have an immediate impact on the game. In the 36
th minute of play
Haley Williams crossed the ball to the left end of the ETSU penalty area. Wheeler made a dazzling move past a defender before playing a ball to the feet of Valenzuela. The Columbian made a turn and blasted her shot into the back of the net to pull the Bisons level.
The second half took a similar shape as the first. Both teams created chances in the opposing third but were ultimately unable to find a winner despite two overtime periods. The center of the field was dominated by a battle between Lipscomb's
Shelby Craft and ETSU's Sinoxolo Cesane. The holding midfielders challenged hard for the ball and provided a strong lift for both teams.
