Softball overcomes five-run hole to win in 11 innings at UNF

The win improved Lipscomb to 10-17 overall and 1-2 in league play, while UNF dropped to 25-7 and 4-2.
Just like both games on Saturday, North Florida jumped on the board in the first inning with a run. They then added two tallies in the third inning and another in the fourth to go in front 5-0.
In the top of the fifth, however, it was Lipscomb's time to strike. After a UNF error and a single from Kyndall Crawford put two runners on, Kaitlyn Woodside singled down the left field line. A throw back in from the Ospreys sailed wide and Elise Shewmaker came home to make it 5-1.

Following a pitching change, Joie Giarrizzo grounded out to second, but it was enough to plate Crawford for the second run. Two batters later, Amy Vetula walked and then stole second, putting two runners into scoring position.
Presley Leebrick then came through with a rip up the middle, scoring Woodside. Following a Maci Cunconan walk, Kamrie Rich singled back up the middle to drive in both Vetula and Cunconan and tie the game at 5-5.

With neither side getting a hit over the next three frames, UNF was able to get a pair of knocks in the bottom of the ninth, but Lipscomb's Kate Peters worked around the damage to keep the game even.
With international tiebreaker rules starting in the 10th, both teams would get a runner on second base to begin the inning. For Lipscomb it was Vetula, who made the last out in the previous frame.
Leebrick led off the 10th with a sacrifice bunt to move Vetula to third. Cunconan then gave Lipscomb its first lead of the afternoon when she laced a single up the middle to make it 6-5.

In the home half, UNF used a sac bunt and a sac fly on the first two at-bats to even the game at 6-6 and send it to the 11th frame.
Kaitlynn Hunt was placed at second after pinch-running for Rich. Shewmaker moved her to third base with a sac bunt on the first at-bat. Then Crawford ripped a shot past the UNF third baseman to plate Hunt and give the Bisons a 7-6 lead.

In the bottom of the frame, the moment of the game came with one out and a runner at third. The UNF batter hit a ball deep in the left hole, but Vetula was there to snatch up the grounder and fired a rocket to the plate where Rich made the tag just before the Ospreys touched the plate, securing the 7-6 victory for the purple and gold.
