Softball drops Sunday rubber match at Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, Ga. – Lipscomb softball dropped the rubber game of its series with Kennesaw State on Sunday as the Owls blanked the Bisons 7-0 at Bailey Park.

The loss drops Lipscomb to 14-21 overall and 4-5 in league action, while Kennesaw State improved to 12-19 and 4-5.

The Owls pitching shut down the Bisons attack nearly all day, allowing just six base runners on three hits and two walks.

KSU scored the first runs of the day in the second inning with a leadoff home run and an RBI-single to go up 2-0.

The Owls pushed across two more in the fifth on three hits, a walk and a stolen base to stretch the lead to 4-0. The momentum carried KSU to three more tallies in the sixth on three base knocks, including a 2-RBI double, to make it 7-0.

Kate Peters (6-6) suffered the loss in working 4.2 innings. She allowed four runs on eight hits and three walks.

Melanie Bennett (9-8) got the win for the Owls after tossing a complete game shutout. She gave up just three hits and two walks while striking out nine Bisons.
 
UP NEXT
Lipscomb will return to the Music City for four games next week. They will first take on Austin Peay at 5 p.m at Draper Diamond on Wednesday before welcoming North Alabama to town for an ASUN series next weekend.
