BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Lipscomb's Jonathan Schwind, Kiara Carter, Bella Jackson, and Jonathan Imes were selected Thursday to compete in the NCAA Track & Field East Preliminary rounds held in Bloomington, Indiana May 25-28.
Schwind and Carter will represent the Bisons in the 800m while Jackson will compete in the high jump and Jonathan Imes will round out the herd in the 400m dash.
Graduate student Jonathan Schwind earned himself a runner-up and a conference champion title for his finishes in the 1500m and 800m events at the ASUN Outdoor Championship. He posted a time of 3:45.49 in the 1500m to claim second before recording a time of 1:50.19 to claim the title in the 800m.
Schwind cemented his qualification to the NCAA East Prelims at the Joe Walker Invitational where he put in a blazing time of 1:47.73 in the 800m. That time eclipsed his previous personal best times set at the 2021 NCAA East Preliminaries and the NCAA Track & Field Championship, ranking him 15th in the NCAA East Region and 30th in the NCAA.
Sophomore Kiara Carter earned her first trip to the NCAA East Prelims with a slate of top finishes in the 800m this season for the Bisons. She earned ninth at the Raleigh Relays with a 2:09.09, 18th at the Walker Invitational with a 2:08.93, and fourth at the Georgia Tech Invitational with a 2:08.16.
Carter set a new program record with a first-place finish in the 800m behind a time of 2:05.66. Her time is 36th in the NCAA East Region and ties her for 73rd in the NCAA.
Freshman Bella Jackson earned a qualification from her dominant performance in high jump for the Bisons. The 2022 ASUN Indoor Track & Field Most Outstanding Freshman led the ASUN in high jump throughout the season, culminating in an individual title at the ASUN Outdoor Track & Field Championship.
The three-time Freshman of the Week claimed her decisive victory with an impressive 1.79m (5' 10.5"), clearing her previous best and the former program record of 1.76m (5' 9.25") which Jackson had set two weeks prior at the Outdoor Music City Challenge. Her 1.79m jump tied her for 21st in the NCAA East Region and ties her for 41st in the NCAA.
Senior Jonathan Imes received his selection after logging a 46.77 in the 400m dash at the Raleigh Relays. For his efforts, Imes earned fifth place in the event and is ranked 58th in the NCAA East Region.
The Germantown, Md. local produced top results for the Bisons in the 400m dash throughout the season. Imes earned a second-place finish with his time of 47.01 at the Georgia Tech Invitational. At the ASUN Outdoor Championship, Imes earned a Conference Runner-Up title in the 400m dash with his time of 46.98.
Imes will compete on Wednesday, May 25th at 6:25 p.m. CT, followed by Schwind will run at 6:50 p.m. CT, while Carter will compete on Thursday, May 26th at 6:50 p.m. CT.
Jackson will jump in the first round on Saturday, May 28th at 1:30 p.m. CT.
The qualifiers out of the East and West regions will compete at the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships held June 8-11 in Eugene, Oregon.
