Softball run-rules Bellarmine on Senior Day to remain in postseason hunt

NASHVILLE – Lipscomb softball once again withstood a lengthy weather delay on Friday to get a 10-2 victory over Bellarmine in the regular season finale at Draper Diamond.

The win keeps the postseason hopes alive for the Bisons, who finished the regular season at 20-31 overall and 10-14 in ASUN play. The purple and gold needs Kennesaw State to win one of its two games against Jacksonville on Saturday to clinch its spot in next week's conference tournament. If the Dolphins happen to win both, however, Lipscomb's season will be over.

Freshman Kate Peters was the workhorse for the Bisons on the weekend, earning all three wins in the circle. She pitched her second complete game Friday, working 5.0 innings and allowing just two runs on two hits. She improved to 12-8 on the year.

Three Bisons recorded two-hit days and four tallied two RBI.

Lipscomb scored twice in the bottom of the first as Kyndall Crawford lifted a sac fly to center before Maci Cunconan ripped an RBI-single to right field.

Bellarmine managed to scratch across a pair of runs in the top of the third to tie the game on a pair of sacrifices.

Just as the Bisons got going good in the third inning, lighting struck and the tarp was pulled, resulting in almost a 1:30 delay.

When play resumed, Crawford and Katelyn Belding recorded singles around a Cunconan walk to load the bases. Jessie Brown then smacked a 2-RBI single through the left side before Kaitlyn Woodside drove in two more on a check-swing single that found its way through the infield to give the Bisons a 6-2 lead.

Lipscomb tacked on two more tallies when Cunconan unloaded on her seventh home run of the season.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Bisons pushed two more runs across to end the game. Crawford drew a bases-loaded walk before Amy Vetula crossed on a wild pitch to walk it off.

After the game, the Bisons honored its four seniors – Vetula, Brown, Kaitlynn Hunt and Katie Turner – in a ceremony on the field.
