Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer comes up short at Mississippi State

Final Score: Mississippi State 2, Lipscomb 0
Location: Starkville, Miss. (MSU Soccer Field)
Records: Lipscomb 1-2-0, Mississippi State 2-0-1

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Despite spurts of possession, the Bisons had limited chances in a back-and-forth game and were unable to overcome a 2-0 deficit against SEC foe Mississippi State Thursday evening in Starkville.

The Bulldogs took advantage before just 11 minutes into the match when Maggie Wadsworth somehow snuck a ball around a tight defense and between CJ Graham's arms from six yards in front of the box.

The Dogs doubled their lead in the 52nd tick when Ally Perry found the center of the net.

As time progressed Lipscomb began to settle in and possess more of the ball. One of the closest attempts the Bisons had to capitalizing was when Cami Rogers got on the end of a ball in the middle of the field. She flicked the ball toward goal, but her effort was stopped by the keeper.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Lipscomb is now 3-3 all-time against MSU, halting a 3-game win streak against the Bulldogs. It was the Bisons first loss in the series since 2015.
  • MSU outshot Lipscomb 13-4, including 7-3 on-target.
  • Kale'a Perry led the team, putting all three of her shots on frame.
  • Graham was back in net and came away with five saves.

THOUGHTS FROM HEAD COACH KEVIN O'BRIEN
"It's disappointing because I thought it was within our reach, but once the match started, I felt Mississippi State was better. They were quicker and sharper to the ball and passed it pretty well, and we were slow to start. It was similar to the Texas game. We have to develop a mentality to where it doesn't matter who we are playing, we need more confidence and belief.

"You throw the first 15 minutes out, and it was a pretty even game the rest of the way. We have to learn from it and get better. In the end, these are the games we want. We are the only team in the ASUN to have played two Power Five teams and I don't think anyone else has played any. It's hard to learn in a loss, but these are the games that will get us better and develop character."
