NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb Softball and head coach Kristen Ryman announced Tuesday the addition of Carrie Eberle to the coaching staff as a pitching coach. Eberle joins the Bisons after a stellar collegiate career at Virginia Tech and Oklahoma State and an impressive season as a graduate assistant for the Oklahoma State Cowgirls.
"We are so excited to welcome Carrie to the Lipscomb family! We truly believe she is ready to step into the coaching side of the game and will prove to be a great young mind in this sport," said coach Ryman. "She'll bring not only a passion for the game and for teaching pitching, but also an intelligent approach to strategy. she has learned from some of the best coaches in the country and she knows what it takes to win at the highest level."
In her undergraduate career, Eberle made her mark in the circle with three seasons at Virginia Tech before she transferred to Oklahoma State for her senior season in 2020 when her tenure was extended to a fifth year due to the COVID rule.
During her time at Virginia Tech, Eberle earned a profusion of accolades including reigns as the 2019 ACC Pitcher of the Year and the 2019 ACC Softball Scholar Athlete of the Year in her junior season.
A hard worker on and off the field, in 2018 Eberle earned spots on the VaSID All-State Second Team and the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. She followed up these honors with selections to the 2019 VaSID All-State Academic Team, the VaSID All-State First Team, and the CoSIDA Academic All-District III.
In the circle, the North Carolina product threw a total of 807.3 against her collegiate opponents including a nine-inning game against Oregon in her 2020 season. Eberle logged career bests of 63 games with no earned runs, 12 games wherein she allowed no walks, she has thrice thrown 11 strikeouts in a game, and she has twice logged zero hits in games where she pitched at least five innings.
Eberle threw 72 complete games over her career and earned a spot on the 2020 Softball America All-American Second Team when she led the Cowgirls to the NCAA Women's College World Series to tie for fifth with a 1-2 record after falling in game 10 to future Runner-Up Florida State.
Eberle remained with the Oklahoma State Cowgirls for the 2021-22 season as a graduate assistant to the program while she earned her masters degree. In her first season as a member of a coaching staff, she helped guide the Cowgirls back to the Women's College World Series and all the way to the 2022 Semifinals.
"I'm super excited to join the Lipscomb coaching staff. I think it's going to be a great fit. It's a great location and a faith-based community that has the kind of family atmosphere I was looking for," said Eberle. "When I went through the interview process, I was looking for somewhere with a great culture and where I can help improve and build off of that and I think Lipscomb is a perfect place for that, so I'm excited to get to work with all the coaching staff. I can't wait to start and to be able to help the players become their best selves on and off the field."
"I think Lipscomb definitely embodies that family and people-first culture that's really important to me. That feeling is essential to me, so that's kind of what drew me to Lipscomb for sure," Eberle said. "I want to be able to create a pitching staff that is a dominant force and that gives the team an opportunity to win every day, that will be the goal. On the field, you know, you want to have that steady presence on the circle and that's what we're going to try and build."
Eberle's love for the game did not end with her collegiate eligibility. She recently completed her second season with the Athletes Unlimited softball league, one of just 60 athletes selected to compete in the league. In her first season with the league, she was named Rookie of the Year and finished fourth overall in the league.
"Ultimately, she was looking for a Christ-centered environment like ours, and she will be able to grow as a coach and thrive here," Coach Ryman finished. "Carrie will be a difference maker in every way for our pitching staff, and we can't wait to get started with her!
